Obama Heads to California to Meet Technology Leaders

VOA News
U.S. President Barack Obama heads to the western U.S. state of California Thursday, where he will meet with the founder of social networking site Facebook and other technology leaders.

The White House says President Obama will meet with the group at a private residence in the San Francisco area. The event will not be open to journalists.

Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg is among those scheduled to attend the meeting. The 26-year-old is one of the world's youngest billionaires.

Among the other business leaders expected at the meeting are General Electric Chief Executive Jeffrey Immelt, Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt and Steve Jobs, the founder of technology company Apple who announced last month that he was taking leave for medical issues.

The White House says Thursday's meeting will address ways the government and business community can collaborate to strengthen the U.S. economy and create jobs. President Obama is also expected to discuss his commitment to investments in areas such as education and clean energy.

On Friday, the president will tour an Intel Corporation semiconductor plant in the neighboring state of Oregon.
